Loose Canons 2017 Canon Preview: ASIAN ACTION CANON!!
Our 2017 Canon will focus on action films from the continent of Asia (excluding Russia, since the main film producing cities in that country are technically in Europe). This year we decided to do a little research before jumping in. We put together a list of just over 100 of the top-rated Asian action films we could find, half taken from user ratings on IMDb and half from user ratings on Letterboxd. Any movies that we have talked about on the podcast before, either in specific episodes or on previous canons (Come Drink With Me, I Saw The Devil, Rumble In The Bronx, etc.) were removed from the list in order to keep this canon as fresh as possible.
From the remaining films each host selected 10 movies from the IMDb list and 10 from the Letterboxd list that they will watch. At the end of the year we will record a podcast where we talk about these movies in the style of our Heralds and Denouncements. Any of the movies we feel strongly positive or strongly negative about we will bring up and talk about our reasons why. Anything that fell in the middle we will pass over, because it isn't super interesting to talk about why _____ movie was "pretty all right" or "kinda mediocre." Then at the end we will talk about movies we've seen that weren't on the lists that we feel deserve praise.
